Whats the Rush (or When Faster Might Actually, um, Mean Better)
Whats the Rush (or When Faster Might Actually, um, Mean Better) Run Hard/Feel Good by Lars Love Letters As a coach, Ive been trained in The Process. When I was getting my certification, I worked with 12 clients under the same format: 12 weekly 45-min sessions. I built the foundation of my business around that, modifying it slightly to include group coaching as well as a week off after every 3rd session. I felt the breathing room was beneficial for the client, as they can get a taste of how it would be like when we stopped working together and we could address those challenges while we were still within the 12 sessions. I dont remember when I offered the Singular Sensation package 1 60-min session followed by a 45-min session within 2 months but it took some kicking and screaming on my end, I remember that. While I knew that there were people who could benefit from a one-off session those that had a more cut-and-dry challenge/goal and didnt need 3-4 months of clarity and support I couldnt leave it at that. The 45-min follow-up had to happen because, well, Im a life coach and life coaches believe in experimenting, fixing whats broken, and building on what works. How could we know what the outcome of the homework was unless we actually followed up on it? I sometimes still wanna say, So thats it?! to my Singular Sensation clients at the end of our follow-up session, but I know they walk away enthused, optimistic, clear-headed, decisive and action-oriented. I actually admit I was surprised it worked. My colleagues are proving this, too. Alexandra Franzens one and only single, solitary service? A full-day, $1500 Velocity session where she writes 8-to-10 copywriting pieces for your biz. Howd you like to catapult through a months worth of minty-fresh copywriting, promotional brainstorming, service re-packaging digital story-shaping in a single, voltaic day?, the page starts. While it seems to good to be true, I know she can double her prices and still be on a 6 month waitlist (thats right, baby Octobers the next open spot) because she not only delivers in spades, but she creates such goodness that she has her clients crying, taking their tops off and proposing to her (although not all at the same time, but its still early). Hot Brand Action is a class that promised that you could find your brand copy, colors, fonts, stories, styles, the whole shebang in 4 short weeks. While I love me some Shenee Howard, I couldnt say that I wasnt skeptical. Thats something that needs time! And question-living! And knowing how to write and design already! And then I saw the before-and-after of my former client Abbies new About Me page, and I fell over. The story, the tone, the personal tie-in to why it makes her an amazeballs dog trainerwell, it improved because Abbie was a part of Hot Brand Action. Shenee knows wussup, is also delivering in spades, and is allowing you to create your whole damn brand in just a month. Being Alexandras first coach and seeing her big fat successes, along with seeing Abbies bio go from Blah to Rah made me ponder The Process and wonder if it was, well, bullhonkey. Could I still be true to my clients journey and not spend 12 sessions with them? Could The Process not exist if the results were, over all others, Quick (yet stellar)? The true life coach I am, I set out to experiment it, looking for guinea pigs to spend 3 hours of a 6-hr time block coaching with me. I saw it as giving a personal workshopwed coach until there was obvious homework, and then wed get off the call for the client to do said homework, and then shed ping when the homework was done wed get back on and coachrinse and repeat for our 6 hour block. I wasnt sure how it was gonna work, but I did know (a) that it would probably still be beneficial for the client and (b) that wed have that damn 45-min session within 2 months, because I am not ready to let go of that follow-up/check-in, thankyouverymuch. Th eres something to knowing youre gonna remain accountable that keeps you moving forward. Ive coached too many people to not truly believe it. This winter, I coached 2 guinea pigs for an Extensive Intensive, as described above. It was exhilarating. It was exhausting. It was fun. It led to multiple lightbulb moments and right-then-and-there action and immediate organization/system implementations and, well, this post. To say It Worked was an understatement, but stillThe Process is still in tact no matter what. I learned that the way I coach the questions I ask, the goals we set, the homework we assign is true whether Im working with someone for 45 minutes or five hours. Theres always forward movement to be had and clarity to be uncovered and discovery to be gained when the client is ready to make that commitment, safeguard that time, and Do The Work. Im not about to get rid of my Growin Up Goods and Operations!, two of the ways I work with people in the longer-term. I still think it would be tough to work with some who have Bigger Questions like What Do I Wanna Be When I Grow Up? to find those answers without living in those questions, and having time between days (not minutes) to research and explore and do for themselves. But Im now a believer that you can get A+, crystal-clear, over-the-moon results on a challenge youre facing if you hook up with the right person or program that can help. Who knew? - Yup. Thanks to my surgery being pushed back, I got 10 one-on-one coaching spots for May. Want one?

5 Things I Did After Having a Baby to Recognize Myself Again
5 Things I Did After Having a Baby to Recognize Myself Again This is not normal. I am not OK, I sobbed into the phone in that heaving, full-body-cry kind of a way. My best friend, Mer, had called to check on me the day after I came home from the hospital with my daughter. An obstetrician, she had delivered my daughter herself a few days earlier. With my best friend at the helm, I couldnt have asked for a mora supported birth. In the days that followed in the hospital, however, I spent most of my time feeling completely overwhelmed. The transition to motherhood welches more radical than I had expected. When I returned from the hospital, I walked into the same house I had left just a few days before but everything felt different. Suddenly, with my daughter in tow, when I stepped into the house I had stepped into a completely new life.Three years and two kids later, I cant imagine my life without my kids, nor would I want to. I welches right that day my life is different now and the road to recognizing myself post-baby welches bumpy (to say the least). Here are five things I did to smooth out the bumps and recognize myself again, post-motherhood1. I went to therapy.I had my daughter on a Monday, came home from the hospital on a Wednesday, and was sitting with my therapist in his office on Friday at 3pm. People talk about baby blues, but I couldnt calm down. Im not ashamed to say I had postpartum depression and anxiety. Having support from a trained professional made a monumental impact on getting to a place where I could feel like myself again.2. I found new ways to enjoy old hobbies. There are few things I enjoy more than reading. Unfortunately, feedings and endless loads of newborn laundry werent exactly conducive to curling up on the couch with a great book. Listening to a great book, however, was perfect for my new routine. Audiobooks didnt just help me reisepass the time and work my way through my reading wish list. Discovering I actually had even more time to p ursue one of my favorite hobbies was a lifeline in reconciling my old life with my new one.3. I cultivated new hobbies, too. When my daughter was 7 weeks old I found myself with 2 hours of unexpected childcare on a random Tuesday afternoon. On a whim, I signed up for a barre class not even really knowing what it was. All I knew was that it was 15 minutes from my house, I wanted to get a workout in and that the class fit my time frame perfectly. I spontaneously tried something new and I absolutely loved it. So much about my life had changed with motherhood and discovering something new on my own terms was exactly what I needed.4. I invested in community.Being at home with a newborn can be isolating and I quickly realized I was happier when I spent time with other people. I made a plan to leave the house everyday and connect with other adults I met friends near their office for coffee or lunch, I signed up for mommy-and-me groups and when all else failed I talked to strangers (usually other women sitting with strollers in coffee shops or at the park). I couldnt have imagined how important the relationships I built with those new friends during this time would be. The more I relied on that community and talked to other women, the more I realized adjusting to motherhood is challenging for just about everyone and youre usually not the only mom having a hard day.5. I went back to work and I crushed it.I was nervous and emotional about the transition back to work, who isnt? Getting settled into working-mom-life was a transition, just like becoming a mother had been 5 months before. Like so many women I know, I went back to work just when I was really getting the hang of this whole mom thing. Three weeks after I returned to work I led a meeting, presenting to a room full of 25 people. Standing in front of the room to unveil a new initiative I truly felt like me again. The initiative launched and was a smashing success. Kicking butt, taking names and changing diapers di dnt just make me feel like my old self it made me feel like the best version of my new self.I dont only recognize myself 3+ years in, I recognize the growth that has made me a better version of my old self. Still passionate about the things I loved before my kids and with appreciation for my incredible community, Im a more resilient version of myself in this (not so) new chapter of my life. ---By day Randi Braun is a sales executive and by night shes the CEO Founder ofSomething Major. 5 Ways to Draw More Applicants to Your Job Fair Booth
5 Ways to Draw More Applicants to Your Job Fair Booth Spring is job fair season, and both employers and job seekers know that these events are excellent ways to make face-to-face connections. Job seekers like the fact that they can meet a variety of hiring mangers in a single day and in one location employers like that they can collect lots of resumes and have a chance to meet the applicants in person and determine if they would be a good fit for the companys culture. With lots of jobs and talent to be had, both job seekers and employers know there will be a sense of competitiveness in the air. Job seekers want to make koranvers they standout from other candidates and make a great impression on recruiters. Employers also create job fair strategies in order to attract the fruchtwein qualified candidates but a recent survey suggests that some employers are unknowingly pushing applicants away. In a February 2015 survey of job fair attendees, conducted by TheQuarterRoll.com, employers noted that some job seekers would walk by their booths at the event and not stop to ask about opportunities. Employers said that job seekers were missing hidden opportunities because they assumed they already knew all of the positions offered. For example, a recruiter at a mortgage processing company was advertising administrative positions, but she also had open positions for a human resource generalist, a software engineer, and a payroll assistant. Job seekers wouldnt know that unless they stopped and talked to the recruiter. So, why dont job seekers stop at every employers table and ask about job opportunities? That was one of the questions the survey sought to answer. While employers stated they thought most job seekers generally approached companies based on brand recognition or other marketing initiatives, job seekers stated other reasons. Based on their responses, the following tips are fo r employers who want to maximize the amount of traffic to their booths at job fairs this season. 1. Eliminate Distractions and Focus on CandidatesJob seekers said that they were hesitant to approach recruiters who were eating, talking or texting on a phone, frowning/disinterested, writing, doing paperwork, typing on a laptop, or engaged in a very long conversation with someone else. The reason given for the job seekers hesitation was they felt they would be interrupting the recruiter, which would get the dialogue off to an awkward or difficult start.2. SmileCompany representatives that seemed unhappy to be at the job fair or appeared to not want to be bothered were a turn off to job seekers. On the other hand, recruiters that smiled and made eye contact were appealing to job seekers who may not have otherwise initiated conversations. A smile was taken as an invitation to approach the employers booth.3. Have a Colorful, Attractive DisplayNext to the recruiters welcoming behaviors, jo b seekers said the second most important thing that made them approach a companys booth was its appearance. Nearly bare tables with only a few brochures on display were often passed over, while booths that had easy to read information onbenefits, jobs, and available locations were favored. One observation brought up by job seekers was that the booths with easily read information gave applicants talking points that made it easier to approach recruiters and initiate conversations. 4. Stand UpJob seekers stated that it was easier to approach someone who was standing than it was to approach someone who was sitting. The explanation most often given was that, when the recruiter was at eye level, it was easier to hear them above the noise of the job fair. Additionally, when the person applying for a job is standing over the seated recruiter and talking over the background noise, they may feel like they aretalking down to the recruiter, creating an awkward interaction. 5. Bring a PartnerBig job fairs attract big crowds that can quickly become unmanageable if only one person is manningthe companys booth. Many job fair attendees want a few minutes of the recruiters time to ask questions about available jobs, explain items on their resume, or learn more about the company. Of course, recruiters also like to have the opportunity to speak to applicants. Many job seekers stated that they would feel intrusive waiting beside another candidate who was talking about their resume and would likely move on to another table. By having a partner at the event, recruiters can better manage visitors to the booth. These five actions will allow recruiters and hiring staff to create a dynamic, welcoming presence at this seasons job fairs and draw in talent that may have otherwise walked by.
